This crack dip is the dip version of my crack chicken (minus the chicken). It’s creamy, cheesy, and absolutely irresistible with sour cream, ranch seasoning, cheese and bacon. And like my crack chicken recipe, it’s inspired a bunch of other equally addicting recipes like crack chicken pinwheels, crack potatoes, crack chicken dip, and crack chicken noodle soup.

Why You’ll Love This Crack Dip Recipe

This might be one of the most addictive dips I’ve ever made. Here are a few reasons why I love it so much.

  • 5 ingredients. Yup, that’s right – only 5 ingredients are needed to make this savory dip. Half of the time I don’t even need to grab anything at the store because I have it all here.
  • 5 minutes prep. This dip is SO easy to make. Just combine the ingredients and pop them in the fridge for an hour so the flavors have time to meld.
  • A party favorite. This is one of the first dips to disappear at any gathering I serve it at. I offer it with a variety of dippers, like crackers and veggies, and everyone is always asking for the recipe.

What You’ll Need

Here are the 5 ingredients you’ll need for your crack dip recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card below for measurements.

  • Sour cream – The tangy, creamy base to the dip. But don’t worry, the dip doesn’t taste too sour cream-y since we’re adding lots of other flavor.
  • Ranch seasoning – Part of what makes this dip so addicting! Grab a packet of Hidden Valley at the store or use your favorite homemade seasoning.
  • Bacon – I like to cook and crumble bacon myself though you could also use bacon bits. I think freshly cooked bacon gives the best flavor, though, and you can keep the pieces a bit bigger.
  • Shredded cheese – Mild cheddar and sharp cheddar both work here! Freshly shredded from the block is best.
  • Green onions – Chopped for a bit of color and earthy flavor.

How To Make Crack Dip

This dip really does come together in just 5 minutes! Be sure to allow time for it to chill too.

  • Combine the ingredients. Mix together the sour cream and ranch seasoning then stir in the bacon, shredded cheese, and green onions. (Reserve some of each for garnish.)
  • Chill. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
  • Serve. Garnish with extra bacon, shredded cheese, and green onions then serve.

Tips & Variations

Here are some things to keep in mind when making your crack dip, as well as some ways to customize it.

  • Let it chill. As tempting as it is to dive right in, this dip is best after the flavors have had time to meld. I recommend at least one hour, though 2+ is better.
  • Add some protein. For a twist, add in some chicken or sausage.
  • Try different seasoning. Instead of ranch seasoning, try Italian seasoning or a blend of your favorite herbs.
  • Spice it up. Stir in some diced jalapenos or add a splash or two of your favorite hot sauce.
  • Warm it up. To turn this into a gooey hot dip, transfer it to a glass dish and bake for 20 minutes or so until hot and bubbly.

You can also use this dip in other fun ways, like as a filling for mushrooms (then bake them…yum!) or as a spread on a sandwich.
