Tips for Packing for a 7-Night Alaskan Cruise in June on Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships

We took a 7-Night cruise to Alaska from Seattle, WA in June of 2024 and it was the BEST vacation our family has ever taken. I was VERY stressed out before our trip because we live in Florida and my kids do not own any Winter clothing. I wasn’t sure if we needed outerwear for snowy or rainy weather. We had friends that took this same trip in May and it was drastically different weather from May to June! My friend said to make sure we packed waterproof clothes, jackets, pants, and shoes. WATERPROOF is the keyword here! You do not need snow boots or snow pants. I brought a winter coat and was comfortable wearing that in the mornings but in the afternoon, a simple sweatshirt or rain jacket with layers is I needed.

Leggings are your best friend on an Alaska Cruise! I could’ve worn leggings the entire week and no one would’ve noticed. My goal was to be cozy and comfy on this trip so I packed leggings and sweatpants. For formal nights (there are 2 formal nights on a 7-night cruise), a simple convertible dress like this one will do or wear nice slacks and a nice top. Our cruise had themed nights as well (Caribbean night and wear all-white night) but it’s up to you if you want to dress for those nights.

I struggled with what shoes to bring on an Alaska Cruise! Hiking boots are essential if you plan on taking an excursion into the wilderness. If you plan to stay onboard or shop in ports, then casual shoes or sneakers are all you need! My hiking boots broke after our Bike and Hike excursion and I ended up wearing my sneakers the last 2 days. You can get away without hiking boots in June on an Alaska Cruise since it doesn’t rain as much. It didn’t rain at all on our trip so we didn’t need waterproof items! As for formal shoes, I brought my Croc sandals because they are comfortable enough to walk all over the ship and still look fancy.

If I took this trip again, I would pack enough basics to last 5 days and re-wear some items. On days when you are cruising, you can wear the same outfit twice or mix and match basics. I hang items that I feel could be worn again in the stateroom closet and mix and match items. I would also skip bringing a winter coat. It came in handy when I was on the ship deck but I could’ve worn lots of layers with a raincoat and would’ve been very comfortable!

Here are the outfits I wore based on our cruise schedule:

Day 1:

• Onboard Outfit – Sweatpants, T-Shirt, Flannel Button-Down, Zip-Up Hoodie, Sneakers
• Dinner Outfit – same outfit

Day 2:

• Cruising Outfit – Leggings, Sweatshirt, Sneakers, Snow Hat
• Dinner Outfit for Formal Night – Convertible Dress, Dressy Shoes

Day 3:

• Sitka, Alaska (Shopping/Excursion port) – Leggings, Long Sleeve Shirt, Hiking Boots, Winter Coat (pack waterproof gloves and snow hat in a backpack)
• Dinner Outfit – Same outfit but with Dressy Shoes

Day 4:

• Skagway, Alaska (Shopping/Excursion port) – Waterproof pants, T-Shirt, Zip-Up Hoodie, Hiking Boots, Raincoat (pack waterproof gloves and snow hat in a backpack)
• Dinner Outfit – Waterproof pants, Dressy Blouse, Dressy Shoes

Day 5:

• Endicott Arms & Dawes Glacier (No Port, you stay on the ship) – Leggings, Long-Sleeve Shirt, Winter Coat, Sneakers, Snow Hat

Day 5:

• Juneau, Alaska (Shopping/Excursion port) – Leggings, Long-Sleeve Shirt, Raincoat, Sneakers (pack waterproof gloves and snow hat in a backpack)
• Dinner Outfit – Same outfit but with Dressy Shoes

Day 6:

• Cruising – Leggings, Sweatshirt, Sneakers – You can wear the same thing you wore on Day 2
• Dinner Outfit Formal Night – Convertible Dress, Dressy Shoes

Day 7:

• Victoria, BC (Shopping/Excursion port) – Sweatpants, T-Shirt, Chambray Button-Down, Sneakers
• Dinner Outfit – Same outfit but with Dressy Shoes

Day 8:

• Seattle, WA – (Shopping/Travel Home) – Leggings, T-Shirt, Zip-Up Hoodie, Sneakers

When we returned to Seattle, we had enough time to explore Bainbridge Island so we took an Uber back to the hotel we stayed at the first night, then walked to Pike Place, then to the ferry station. We walked all over Bainbridge and then back to downtown Seattle, near the Space Needle. It was A LOT of walking and the temperature reached 70 degrees. I wish I had packed bike shorts in my backpack to change into! You never know how the weather will be so pack layers and yes, even shorts!

Packing for Kids on an Alaskan Cruise

When it came to packing for kids, I packed pretty much the same things I brought. I packed joggers for both my son and daughter and one formal outfit that they wore twice. I found hiking boots on Amazon for everyone and my hubby found boots that were casual and dressy with khakis for a formal night. My sone wears a lot of white t-shirts and my daughter wears band tees with cardigans or hoodies.
