I don’t think there is any bird more beautiful than a flamingo. I love their vibrant pink color and delicate feathers. If you agree, you will love this pretty pink handprint flamingo craft.
It is easy to make, turns out beautifully, and is a perfect addition to any present.
This would be a great birthday card, baby shower card, Mother’s Day card, or just “thinking of you,” card. It is a simple enough craft for kids to make.
This would make an excellent keepsake card, especially for moms, grandmas, and aunts. Any pink-obsessed ladies in your life (I can relate!) would love to receive this.
You only need a few basic materials to make this yourself (or with a kiddo). Grab some lovely pink construction paper, scissors, googly eyes, a glue stick, and a marker and let’s get started!
Supplies You’ll Need
A2 construction paper – Pink*
Scissors
Googly eye x1
Glue stick
Black marker
*You can use smaller sized paper. A3 or A4 would work but you will need several sheets to have enough paper for the legs, the long neck and head, and the main body.
I prefer size A2 for this craft because I was able to easily draw all the body parts on one sheet.
How to Make Handprint Flamingo Craft
Step 1. Fold one side of your paper to approximately the 1/3 mark of the page. You will trace your hand on the folded third of the paper.
This will ensure that you still have plenty of room to draw the rest of your body parts.
Step 2. You will now trace your hand. To do this, line up your pinky finger with the folded edge. Get your marker and carefully trace your hand.
Be sure to keep your pinky finger aligned with the folded edge the entire time.
Step 3. When you are done tracing, you should have your handprint on the page. It’s time to get your scissors.
Step 4. Begin cutting out your handprint. Be careful not to cut the folded edge at all, so that the card is able to open.
Step 5. When you are done cutting, you should have a hand that opens. The hand will serve as the main body of your flamingo.
Do you see how your fingers look like flamingo feathers?
Step 6. Be sure that your handprint opens and closes. This should work because you didn’t cut along the folded edge.
Step 7. Now, it is time to draw the rest of your flamingo. Start with the beak, head, and neck.
Start by sketching out an oval-shaped head and the long neck of your flamingo. Then, draw the beak.
Step 8. Next up are the legs for your flamingo. These can be simple and long.
I have drawn one of the legs straight and the other so that it looks bent.
Step 9. It’s time to get your scissors again! Carefully cut out the beak, head, neck, and legs.
Step 10. Now, use your glue stick to attach the flamingo’s neck to the handprint body.
Step 11. You are almost done! It’s time to glue the legs at the back of the flamingo’s body.
Step 12. We just need to add the finishing touches now. It’s time to add a googly eye to complete your flamingo.
Doesn’t this pink flamingo look super cute?
Step 13. Now, you can open your card. Write a sweet and thoughtful personalized message for the lucky recipient of your flamingo.
What an adorable card!
How Long Do These Flamingos Take to Make?
These flamingo cards come together quickly. They won’t take very much time at all.
You can quickly trace your hand and draw the body parts. You will want to take extra time to be careful that you are cutting everything out properly.
If you are helping a child to make this card, you may need to advise them to cut slowly to avoid making a mistake. Still, this is a very quick craft.
It will take only about half an hour (or less) to make this flamingo card. You could even spend an afternoon making a few of them if you want to use them as party invitations or thank you cards.
